Accommodation:

Discussing the accommodation, in Canada, four types of accommodation facilities will be available for you. It includes:

Shared Accommodation:

In shared accommodation, two to four students share the living place. This will reduce the overall cost of the room per head. Usually, these places are non-furnished and do not include Gas/Hydro. The shared accommodation cost can range from CAD 300-400. Therefore, shared accommodation is preferred for newcomers.

Private Room:

Many options are available for both furnished or unfurnished housing in Canada for living privately. But, it is always suggested to check reviews of each rental apartment and the feedback from other people who have already lived there.

Homestay:

Living with a host family provides safety as you are new to the country.

The host family can familiarise you with the city by giving an overview of the culture and answering your doubts. Usually, it takes 30 to 50 minutes, in general, to commute to your workplace.

On-campus:

Some universities provide the facility of residence on-campus or nearby campus, preferably for the first year of the course. Usually, they offer to stay in Dormitories or Townhouses. Dormitories are large buildings accommodating many students, whereas Townhouses are for only three to six students.

Both housing categories might offer utilities like heat, hot water and internet at a reduced cost.

Academic Integrity:

As we represent our country abroad, It is always advisable for the students to hold themselves accountable to honesty, trust, and ethics in coursework. Students must abide by all the rules of the foreign university with dedication.

Copyright Infringement:

Copyright norms may differ from country to country. So, It is important to be aware of the copyright laws of Canada. It is advisable not to download, access or share any copyrighted materials you don’t own without proper consent from the owner.

Weather and Winter Clothing

Winter falls in Canada from mid-December to mid-March. During this duration, the temperature ranges from -5 to -15 degrees Celsius. As our body is not adaptable to such a harsh cold climate, we suggest international students arrange necessary winter clothes and accessories as a priority after reaching Canada. It includes:

Parka/ Winter Jacket and Cap

Hat

Gloves

Snow boots

It is recommended not to buy these clothes from India. It is preferred to purchase it from Canada. Canadian clothes are made suitably to meet up with cold weather conditions.

Moreover, wear sturdy shoes, a jacket and a warm sweater or jumpers for your arrival.
